MAET Annotated Transcript PageThe following courses were taken through Michigan State University's College of Education to earn both an NP Teaching Endorsement Certificate and a Masters in Educational Technology. Offered through the Department of Counseling Educational Psychology and Special Education (CEPSE), this program was perfect for me. It is a series of 10 classes, two of which are electives. You can complete it all online or all on-campus, or you can do a combination of the two. I chose to do the hybrid program, completing the majority of my classes online with one summer cohort on-campus in East Lansing. You can learn more about the program, by clicking on MAET.
The following are the courses which I completed to earn my Masters Degree in Educational Technology. Click on the titles below to learn more about each course and what I did to complete it. |
NP CERTIFICATION COURSES
These courses are designed so that, at their completion, we can earn our NP Teaching Endorsement Certificate. Recognized instantly by the Michigan Department of Education, this endorsement allows us to teach any technology class at the high school level. Going into these classes, I knew that they would be challenging, but I did not realize how much that I would be able to instantly apply to my teaching. At the completion of the certification courses, I had re-done many of my lessons to incorporate technology, redefining the lesson into something more than it was before.

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
|
This course taught me that you cannot target a technology and ask yourself "how an I use this in my classroom." But that you have to find a unit that needs improvement and ask yourself "what technology can make this unit better?" I also joined MACUL and learned more about networking with other educators to better understand how to use technology in my classroom.
During this class, I made an online unit for my students (click the button above labelled "MY STAIR PROJECT"). It was very challenging, but I really enjoyed the process. I used it at the end of the spring semester in 2013 with my French Language Culture class (mainly 9th graders). It was challenging for them, but they thoroughly enjoyed it and they learned a lot from the process of using math and French together.

CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice

This course was all about how people have approached and attempted to solve big problems in poor ways. We learned what NOT to do in this course by working with our peers to solve a big educational issue. We also explored how to use technology to help students with learning needs as well as all students in general.

CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
This course is designed to review how students learn. We reviewed psychological perspectives on learning as well as some learning theories. We connected this back to ourselves and our teaching. I did many projects for this course, please click the button to see what I did (with my group members).

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
We reviewed how technology can be repurposed so it can be used in the classroom, assessing its strengths and weaknesses. The biggest concept that we learned focused on the SAMR model, ensuring that we are not just using technology as a substitute but that we are using it as a modification or a redefinition of an assignment.

CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
In this course, we focused on research in education. Our goal was to find reliable resources in our search to uncover a major problem in education. We focused on the problem of misconception.

TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learning
Instructor: Dr. Chad Waldron
Grade: 4.0 Online Fall 2013. |
Offered directly throughout the College of Education, this class fulfills the MDE Reading requirement to apply for the Professional teaching certificate. It covered how best to incorporate and measure literacy levels in all different types of classrooms, though it allowed us to gear our main case study on our own field of study or our own content area.
CEP 816: Teaching and Learning Across the Curriculum
Instructor: Dr. Rand Spiro and Hannah Klautke
Grade: 4.0
Online Fall 2013.
Offered through the MAET program, this class was one that I chose as my elective. I thought it would be beneficial since it covers information "across the curriculum", which helped me think about how technology can be used in differentiated instruction as well as in cross-curricular units. As I read examples from other classrooms, I was inspired to discuss the technologies and the possible uses of them with my colleagues, even though we do not teach the same subject. It was beneficial not only for myself, but for my school as a whole. The main thing that I learned from this course was that technology is everywhere and people use specific websites or apps for certain uses, but we can repurpose those uses to fit into our classroom. Again, the emphasis is not to start with the technology and force it into your curriculum, but to start with your curriculum and find an area that needs improvement.

The aims of the course are to teach us, as teachers, how to carry our current pedagogical strategies over to the online classroom. How can we reach students and connect with them even though we may never meet face to face? I created a hybrid online and in-class unit that will focus on my IB French Language Culture class, which is for my juniors. I chose to use Moodle as my CMS, since the students are already using it for most of their classes. You can find the link here (or on the button to the right). Select "log-in as a guest" and then enter the password "madame" to access the page.
CEP 807: Capstone
Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Andrea Zellner, Joshua Rosenberg, Spencer Greenhalgh

Online Spring 2014.
I am currently in the process of completing this course. The aims of the course are for us to review what we have learned in our journey of completing the MAET program. The main product of the course is this we page that you are visiting right now. It is used to showcase what I have learned and how I have applied it in my classrooms and how I will apply it in the future. This course was a great opportunity to go back through all that I did for the MAET program. It helped me reflect and look forward. It has been my favorite class since my first class.
