Grade Integrity
With so many levels and different expectations in my classroom, grade integrity is very important. The best way to do this is to set clear expectations at the beginning, and have them in writing so students can refer back to them.
In learning, reflection and assessment each hold very important roles. At the International Academy, we have to hold students to higher standards than other schools because the students will be testing for their International Baccalaureate Diplomma at the end of their high school career. Throughout each unit, students should be assessed frequently. These formative assessments can be graded or not, but they should be corrected by students so that they are better able to see their mistakes and to learn from them. The best way to encourage reflection is to ask for it at the bottom of the test after the students have finished correcting, or else in digital format so the teacher can see all of the responses together. For reflection is not only beneficial for the student, but should be assessed by the teacher so changes to the curriculum can be made as well. |
